This winter, UHI launched and operated a network of Humanitarian Hubs — safe, warm spaces for people affected by blackouts. From January 20th to March 30th, 2026, we ran four locations across Kyiv region.
Four hubs. 142 working days. 19,214 people.
Location | Period | Days |
Brovary, 253 Kyivska St | Jan 20 — Feb 26 | 37 |
Kyiv, Troieshchyna, 31 Chervonoi Kalyny Ave | Jan 30 — Mar 30 | 59 |
Kyiv, Holosievo, 6 Heroiv Mariupolia St | Feb 11 — Mar 16 | 33 |
Obukhiv, 119 Kyivska St | Feb 28 — Mar 13 | 13 |
What every visitor received:
A warm zone to heat up
Free hot drinks
Charging stations for phones and devices
Fast, reliable Wi-Fi
A first aid kit
A dedicated kids' zone with games and creative activities
Who came through our doors
Of 19,214 visitors — 10,814 were children. More than half. They came after school: to get warm, charge their phones, be somewhere safe, and simply rest.
"The families who come to us genuinely can't afford anything right now — no electricity, nowhere to get warm, nowhere to charge their phones. Kids come straight from school. They just want a moment to rest — emotionally and physically," — Vira, UHI volunteer.
Recognition
The project received international recognition: on February 5th, Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna visited our Troieshchyna hub. On March 4th, Mondo representatives conducted a monitoring visit to three locations — joined by the Head of Desnianskyi District State Administration, Maksym Bakhmatov.
Partners and support
This project was implemented in partnership with Dobrobat, with support from Mondo and the People of Estonia.
What's next
This winter proved the model works. The hubs were needed — and demand far exceeded expectations. UHI is ready to scale the project and is looking for partners and donors for the next season.
